Zwick's 1200kN electromechanical testing machine for testing steel

Zwick has expanded it's product portfolio of electromechanical universal testing machines in order to meet the growing needs of the steel industry. The maximum capacity has now been doubled from 600kN to 1200kN, and this machine has been designed to carry out tensile, compression and bend tests on steel specimens and components.

The machine has a long crosshead travel compared to the overall height which makes it ideal for gripping specimens of varying lengths. The use of precision measuring equipment and state of the art digital electronics means that the machine achieves class 0.5 from 12kN, and class 1 from 2.4kN up to 1200kN according to ISO 7500 in a single range. There is no need for the user to make any adjustments or select load ranges.

As with all testing machines from Zwick, the most important aspect is the stiff, robust and stable load frame. The digitally controlled electromechanical drive and backlash free ball lead screws ensure precise positioning and speed control. The standard machine also includes 1200kN capacity hydraulic specimen grips. The determination of proof stress requires an accurate extensometer, and Zwick's fully automatic digital Macro extensometer easily meets the requirements of the International Standards.

Whilst extremely high position control resolution and accuracy guarentees excellent test results and repeatability, a reliable and maintenance-free AC servo drive, and very low running costs are further advantages to the user.

ISO 6892 is the basis for many international standards for the ambient testing of metals and defines the procedure for tensile testing. There are still some differences between the various standards relating to specimen geometry, test speed and software algorithms for result definition. However, when a user selects testXpert intelligent application program to test according to ISO, EN, ASTM or JIS, they can be reassured that the correct test parameters are used. This makes testing easier and more reliable.
