Z-Tensile Testing Unit for Paper |

"About 2 years ago, a smart guy from Zwick came to us at R&D Sappi Maastricht to present Zwick products. Even though I had already had experience with Zwick devices, I was again very satisfied by the new generation of machines and the PC working platform. What I have always appreciated is the ease of use, the reliability, and especially the great flexibility achieved by just changing the module for a completely different test. One of these modules was the z-tensile unit, which drew my attention because measurement of the internal bond using the pendulum method was not satisfying.
The z-tensile module from Zwick is constructed to measure 5 times with one sample preparation similar to the standardized Scott-Bond pendulum testers. This module was manually driven, which was an issue to improve. When I suggested automating the measurement of the 5 samples, this idea implemented by Zwick Development with a very satisfying result. With the new automatic measurement of the 5 samples, about 30% of the time needed to measure the internal bond can be saved, since sample preparation can be done while the other sample is automatically tested. Therefore, standard equipment now includes two pairs of sample holders.
Meanwhile a series of tests have been done where also the correlation with the pendulum method was investigated. The general impression for all issues was that the results with the Zwick z-tensile were better related to the practical problem than those of the pendulum tester. Also the possibility to define different results and having the stress/strain curve presented is useful for interpretation." |
