International Standards specify that enclosures or cables which carry electrical equipment or wiring must pass a Glow Wire ignitability or flammability test. The main purpose of such tests is to ensure that in the event of a fault which causes the wiring to heat up inside the enclosure, the enclosure or cable sheath does not ignite itself or any adjacent component.
Organisations such as Bayer Materials Science carry out such tests to ensure the materials supplied by them meet all the relevant Standards. The test has traditionally been carried out in a manual way and now Bayer Materials Science is able to do this test completely automatically by using Zwick’s new fully automatic Glow Wire Tester.
