Digital Camera Prize Draw Winner

We are pleased to announce the winner of our Prize Draw is Chris Crouch of Dublin City University.

Having been presented with his camera by Ireland Sales Manager Mike Brookes, Chris says:

“Dublin City University has two Zwick testing machines a FR005TN 5 kN load frame bought in 2005, and a FB050TM 50 kN load frame bought in 2007. Both machines carry out a varied workload using a number of different materials and testing solutions to support undergraduate and research testing projects.

Some of the materials used by the researchers and students include Arterial Tissue, Sylgard (biocompatible material that demonstrates variable elastic properties), Nitinol (stent material), Steel, Aluminium alloys, Copper alloys, Steel coated specimens, various Plastic specimens.

Standard Tensile, Compressive and Cyclic testing has been carried out using Zwick supplied jaws or platens along with in-house designed and manufactured tooling to fit the appropriate project requirements and machine frame.

The 5kN machine was bought primarily for medical research investigation into the design of medical devices, particularly intravascular stents and vascular grafts. This project involves quantifying arterial expansion during stent deployment and the characterisation of arterial tissue and blood vessel analogue materials.

For these applications Zwick’s high resolution videoXtens® extensometer was used to measure strain and stent expansion in vitro.

As a result of the good relationship between Zwick in Ireland and Dublin City University, when DCU were upgrading their 15 year old Instron machine in 2007, they chose to select the Zwick 50 kN Machine, with TestXpert® II software and including an incremental clip on extensometer and a video recording kit.

The easy to use software, set up of testing parameters, and report set up parameters assisted in clinching the deal.

The capability of using the video testing playback, running parallel on the screen to the stress strain graph is an ideal teaching aid to explain the testing process”.

As well as receiving his camera Chris will also receive the Zwick Newsletter and forthcoming promotional offers from Zwick UK.
